Easy Shortbread Cookies

I made this recipe. I like the form of sweetness that the powdered sugar provides but the flavor was missing some elements. Next time I will be using actual butter as opposed to margarine and incorporating in some almond paste to really deepen the flavor. These work great for making simple dough for kids however. So after the first batch came out that's what I did - split the rest of the dough, added color (food color gel) and then allowed the kids to bake the rest.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour


INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Frist  Heat oven to 350° F. In large bowl, beat butter, powdered sugar and vanilla with spoon. Stir in flour. 
  2. Then(If dough is crumbly, mix in 1 to 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened.)
  3. Roll dough 1/2 inch thick on lightly floured surface. Cut into small shapes by hand or use cookie cutters. 
  4. Then ce 1/2 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
  5. Bake 14 to 16 minutes or until set and bottoms are light golden brown. 
  6. Then Immediately remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely, about 30 minutes.
  7. Enjoy!
